Wallace Goddard's book, "Drawing Heaven Into Your Marriage,"
gives such great council for husbands and wives to become closer together. He
talks a lot about bring Christ into your marriage and how it will bless you. If
you have Christ in your marriage and in your life you will be able to see your
spouse in a better light. You will notice their divine potential and the love
you have for them will consistently grow. Brigham Young was confronted by
a wife that wanted a divorce from her husband and he told her, “If you could
only see your husband as he will be in the glorious resurrection, this very
husband you now say you despise, your first impulse would be to kneel and
worship him.” If we look at our spouse in a more Christ like way and really see
their role as a Son of God we would be so excited! You will find yourself over
time wondering how your love for your spouse could grow more. Our love
for our spouse can grow more than we realize with the help from the Savior.
Goddard gave a quote from Ezra Taft Benson that gives such great advice.
“When we put God first, all other things fall into their place or drop out of
our lives.” The things that will distract us or weaken our relationship with
our spouse will disappear if we but follow President Benson’s advice.
Goddard talked about how the faith that you will gain from having Christ
be apart of your marriage will help raise you and give you a “vibrant,
light-filled life.” Who doesn’t want that in their lives and marriage?
Gottman talked about turning toward your spouse more in his book, "The
Seven Principles For Making Marriage Work.” I know when I try and find ways to
be with my husband and do things he enjoys it makes our relationship stronger.
I love it so much when my husband helps me with the dishes or comes grocery
shopping with me. I know he doesn’t enjoy those things but he does it to help
and be with me.
